CMSO on Urban Mutant and Guest Mix on I Heart Noise

Thanks to Dʝ βLєєҜ for including “Abstract” from Orca, Attack!‘s forthcoming album C.M.S.O. on yesterday’s episode of Urban Mutant, first broadcast on Hollow Earth Radio and now on Mixcloud:

Orca, Attack! also put together a guest for I Heart Noise in honor of the release. The mix includes a smorgasbord of spoken word, synthesized voices, music made for commercial purposes, music made for educational/instructional purposes, videogame music, and some other stuff that we just thought was cool, with artists ranging from Frank Ocean to Gwendolyn Brooks to Stone Temple Pilots to Throbbing Gristle to Susan Stone…Check it out in Mixcloud and see the full tracklist over on the I Heart Noise website.

New EP and the return of Orca, Attack!

Drumroll please…announcing the launch of the new educational cassette series “Learning by Listening” on the indomitable Strategic Tape Reserve label. Volume 1, C.M.S.O., is by Orca, Attack!, my band with husband David Rodriguez. From STR:

Learning by Listening is an educational, instructive cassette series designed to bring the information of the world into your home, and your brain. Our educator-developed, pedagogically-sound methodology harnesses the power of music to fully open the listening receptors, allowing both facts and abstract concepts smooth, unimpeded entry to the relevant zones of the human mind. Each non-accredited volume of the cassette series will cover a significant and edifying topic, presented verbally and musically by experts (or qualified enthusiasts) in that field. As the series grows, collectors will have the opportunity to build a home audio reference library, providing themselves with a vast ocean of musically-enhanced, easily-attainable knowledge, all conveniently storable on a wall-mounted shelving unit. Illuminate your ears, by learning, by listening.

Our contribution is the six-song EP C.M.S.O. (short for Course Management System Optimization). “Suitable for both beginners and those with some practical experience, Orca, Attack! (New Orleans-based academics/musicians Elizabeth Joan Kelly and David Rodriguez) approach the topic in a structured format, delivering the information in both engagingly processed spoken text and celestial sung vocals, all over a rich field of timbrally shifting electronic modern classical compositions specifically designed to effectively facilitate comprehensive attainment of the subject matter. We here at STR consider this inaugural volume a must-listen for anyone interested in either C.M.S.O. or the exciting, sublime possibilities in new music.”

The EP will be available on cassette via Strategic Tape Reserve’s Bandcamp page, as a digital download there as well as my Bandcamp, Orca, Attack’s! Bandcamp, and the usual streaming platforms. Pre-sales start on April 2!
